First Class

Biography (Source: Soundclick.com (2004)):
At a time when catchy pop punk saturates the airwaves and dominates venues of both small cities and vast metropolises across the nation at an almost nauseating level, who will be the ones to break from this trite subdivision of punk rock? Who will be the ones to reach out and grab onto the shoulders of the listener, differentiating themselves from the rest? Who will be the ones to captivate the fans, keeping them thirsting for more so that this addictive sound, which so many have only recently stumbled upon, doesn't drown in the torrential flux of the mainstream?

Meet First Class. A group of kids with so much heart for music that harmonies flow through their veins. A group of kids with so much drive that no matter how many hurdles they've come across, a determination for success always surmounts them. A group of kids who are just that… kids, ranging in age from 18 to 22, a factor which is crucial for positive reception, because kids starve for music they can relate to.

First Class officially broke ground back in the fall of 2001 with a slightly different lineup. From the beginning of high school, though, each of the members gained a considerable amount of experience in bands that eventually established an impressive following in the local scene. Their previous endeavors provided them with live performance experience, (playing at venues such as Chicago's Metro and House of Blues to name a few), the opportunity to hop in a van and get a thrilling taste of the touring life, and also become acquainted with the recording process under the direction of names like Mass Giorgini at Sonic Iguana and Mr. Precision (of Hopeless Records band, Break the Silence) at the Bombshelter Studio. But eventually their writing styles began to evolve, and with this maturity came a need for something different. A need for a composition of avid individuals who were, after all that time, still driven by an inextinguishable passion for music and ambition for success.

The changing of the color of the leaves a year after First Class' inception brought a lineup adjustment along with it. The addition of current drummer, Orange County Drum & Percussion-sponsored Mike Hussa, proved to be precisely the final key ingredient to spice up their mix and perfect the recipe known as First Class. Together with Mike, guitarist/vocalist Andy Simon, guitarist Matt Haraburda, and bassist Adam Mufich embellished on songs which already existed, cranked out crisp material, and in a matter of weeks landed a show at the Fireside Bowl in Chicago.

Recently the band spent time at the Bombshelter recording their debut EP, Somewhere in the Grey, which boasts of fast, complex melodies that manage to get stuck in your head for days, and more importantly, lyrics anyone can relate to. Beneath the catchy surface one can pick up on hints of music they've all grown up on, from No Use for a Name to Rancid, whose influence keeps them churning out melodic, yet edgy, aggressive songs that kids can move to. With the band merely in its infancy and having such proper chemistry among its distinct elements, First Class promises many jaw-dropping surprises in the future, torturing the eager listener with the anticipation of what's yet to come.

Wishing Well

Biography: (source: Spawner Records website (2003))
Wishing Well is a melodic punk band from Vernon, BC, who enjoy skateboarding, snowboarding and playing stoking music to kids eager for something energetic and fast that has catchy melodies. Wishing Well is Kevin Bruce (bass), Justin denBok (vocals), Stephan LaCasse (guitar and harmony), Matt Lunde (lead guitar), and Scott Ross, (drums).
Wishing Well started out in late 1996 as school buddies Scott and Stephan bashing out Pennywise’s "Brohymn" on a Peavey Rage amp and a pile of boxes. Finally, months later, Scott bought some drums, Stephan tried singing and Kevin (another school buddy) came over with a bass (and no amp). Five songs and four shows later (summer '97), Bryce Marshall (who played guitar and went to some other school who Scott kind of knew) came on with loads of hooks and riffs to add to Wishing Well's increasing set list. It was around this time that the band recorded its first recording, Euphoria, which was recorded by Bryce's music teacher, Brian McMahon in the school's music room. The tape had 7 songs on it and the band quickly sold out of the 50 or so tapes it had made. This lineup lasted for a few months until Justin was asked to sing. It was a few months after that the band recorded it's first studio-quality demo at Sirius Music. The band recorded three songs which were not really available to the public until the band recorded 5 more songs at Vernon Recording. The combining 8 songs were released on Wishing Well's first demo, Wake Up, of which, 100 copies were made.
The band went on to play locally on regular basis and develop a loyal following. As many months went by, the band had to many songs they could not afford not to record, so into the Vernon Recording studio they went to record their first full-lenth, Choices Made, Lessons Learned, which had 14 songs plus one hidden acoustic track. This is Wishing Well's most recent release, which came out in December of 1999, and has sold upwards of 1000 copies. This five-piece lineup lasted for a couple years, until recently when Bryce left the band to pursue other things (he still hangs out and comes to shows, and everybody loves him). The band then starting touring heavily throughout western Canada as a four-peice in their 1978, propane-powered, flame-painted, Ford Econoline Cargo van, which was recently deemed unfit for the road by the Vehicle Inspection Unit of the RCMP. After thinking back to memories of hitch-hiking from Calgary to Edmonton and back for a couple shows because of the van breaking down and missing shows on Vancouver Island for the same reason, the band agreed that the van was more of a threat than a benefit and left it on the road for a scrap yard to take away, after spending a little time smashing it up.
Recently, the band has re-added a fifth member, Matt Lunde. “Lundy” used to play bass in various bands with Justin and then Stephan and ended up buying a guitar and amp to play with Wishing Well. He is definitely a permanent fixture now in the sound and personality of the band.Their upcoming release, Intervals, is a ten song journey through territory Wishing Well has been intimidated in the past to experiment in. There are still the hard, fast punk (Nothing More Nothing Less, Lit) and some lighter, poppier stuff (Pieces, A Day In The Life Of A Captive Heart)but the band has also included a couple acoustic tracks (Sustain, Who You Aren't) and some tracks that don't quite fit into a specific punk genre (Deeper Than, Jimmy Doggit). The band is especially proud of their new CD and plans on getting it into as many CD players as possible.
The five members of Wishing Well completed a hectic cross-Canada tour in December which nearly took 2 months and covered most of Canada and are currently on a lengthier cross-Canada tour from April 19 until June 10 to promote their upcoming release on Spawner Records. Response has been great, and word is starting to get around that these Vernon boys deliver one of the most energetic show in Canada.

ThirdFall

Biography: (source: Thirdfall website)
On the east cost of Canada, is a small town by the name of St-Jean. Very close to Montreal, it has all the qualities and the criminality of a big city, minus the tall buildings and the heavy pollution. Nobody really knows why, but the town is house to one of the most prolific musical scenes in Québec. It saw, and is still seeing the births and deaths of many great bands.

It was in 1993 that the band we now know as ThirdFall first formed. Mart and Frank have always played together, before 1993 they were part of one of the two bands that could be seen as the founders of the underground music scene of St-Jean. Those bands were respectively named Troubled Youth and Mad Roach. Former member John was part of another group called Warthog, in wich Mart also played. Unfortunately, Troubled Youth and Warthog were pretty much going nowhere, and both called it quits. Mart and John then decided to put forward a side project wich was called Flatspot, and regrouped old members of both Troubled Youth and Warthog.

After alot of members changes, Flatspot finally became a team with Mart, Frank, John, and Rick as it's members. It was 1995, and the time for a first release. Just then, the band members learned that another band was going by the name of Flatspot in the U.S, and decided to change. They then became Wishit for a couple of weeks, and finally went with a third name, ThirdFall. They found a (really) cheap studio, and went on to record Make My Day. Some powerful pop punk with catchy vocals, but still needing a little work. It was the beginning of the tidalwave.

Right after their first release, the guys started to work on what would be the first album, Live Evil. With more money and more time, they produced what was going to be the first marketed cd to come out of St-Jean. The same year, wich was 1996, ThirdFall teamed up with Subb to release the successful Two Ban'an'a Split cd. At that point, their career was improving day by day, but little did they know. First, Rick left the band and Nick from Subb joined in to replace him. After that, John and Nick left also. So at that point, Mart's co-writer/guitarist/singer was gone and the band had no drummer. Then Mart and Frank met this amazing guitarist by the name of Jul, and gave Rick a call. ThirdFall was reborn, and the band started working on some new stuff wich is now on Pure Evil. The machine is in full effect, and wrecking every obstacles in it's path.

Mr. Yuck - Old version of Narrow Minds

I've just found an old version of the song Narrow Minds by Mr. Yuck. The recording must be around 1996. I'm looking for any infos about demo/tapes the band could have released. Or also any compilation they appeared on. They started in 1994, I doubt they never released anything else before Warm Up in 2000.

Heffer

Biography (source: drownedinsound.com)
Heffer officially formed in the summer of 1996 in Essex, England.

Chris (vocals and guitar) and Jim (drums) had been left on their own after the singer and bass player from their old (cock) rock band split up. Phil was recruited by Chris and Jim to play bass because, well because they couldn't find anyone else. Chris and Phil were intent on becoming a (cock) rock band but Jim had other ideas. He convinced the other two members that he knew someone who could sing punk really well, and for some reason Chris and Phil believed him.

After borrowing some NoFX CDs off of Jim, Chris and Phil began to warm to the idea of punk themselves, and Chris began to write some punk tunes. This carried on for about six months without Jim's promised singer ever showing up. In an attempt to save the band, Chris stood in front of the microphone and began to sing, pretty badly at first, but he got a lot better. Heffer were known as 'Five Days Wiser' for about five days, after which, they became wiser and realized what a crap name that was, so instead they called themselves Heffer, and it kinda stuck.

In the summer of 1998 (after many gigs, practice sessions and living room recording attempts) Heffer finally went into the studio to record their seven track demo 'The Monsters of Cock'.

Following a year of occasional gigging, Heffer finally went back into the studio to record their next demo. However, lack of funds meant the studio had to be Chris's bedroom. Drums and bass were laid down in about three days. Then three months later Chris got off his arse and recorded the guitar and vocal parts. The new Heffer seven track demo was born, and was entitled 'demo'.
